Each October, the Office of Disability Employment Policy within the U.S. Department of Labor observes National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This month-long celebration is a time to honor the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. The theme for this year—which marks 70 years since the first observance—is "My Disability is One Part of Who I Am."

April is Autism Awareness Month, and April 2 is World Autism Day. Nearly one in 68 children has been identified with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a group of developmental disabilities that impacts multiple life areas, such as social skills, communication skills and behavior. Individuals with ASD may require individualized services and supports to lead self-determined lives in the community.

This is an opportunity for communities to raise awareness of the many ways people with developmental disabilities contribute to our society. The Administration on Intellectual and Developmental disabilities works to advance the concerns and interests of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through an array of programs funded under the Developmental Disabilities Act.
