NADRC Webinar on Dementia Screening in the Community

February 23, 2023

Wednesday, March 22, 2023 | 1:00-2:00 PM ET

Register for the webinar.

Join the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) for "Community-Based Early Dementia Screening Leads to Support for Caregivers and People Living with Dementia." During this webinar, participants will learn about two ACL Alzheimer’s Disease Programs Initiative (ADPI) grantees that are successfully conducting dementia screenings in the community.

Community-based organizations play a key role in conducting dementia screenings in the community. The benefits of these screenings cannot be underestimated because they can lead to referrals for a comprehensive medical assessment to assist in diagnosing dementia.

  • The Chinese American Service League used the Mini-Cog™, a brief cognitive assessment tool, to successfully screen 596 of 800 program participants. After the assessment, some people were linked to specialists for dementia diagnostic evaluation, and others were provided with case management and other services to meet their needs.
  • OMID has used outreach events and programs to sign community members up for early memory screenings since August 2021, using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Once screening scores are calculated, case managers work with people whose scores signal early memory loss to educate them about OMID’s care coordination services and how OMID can assist them with securing additional testing and observation.

NADRC webinars are free of charge and open to the public, although pre-registration is required. The webinars are recorded and will be available for future viewing on the NADRC website. Closed captioning is available during the webinar and will be included in the recording.

Funded by ACL, NADRC provides support to ACL and its grantees to implement evidence-based interventions and innovative practices that empower and assist caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.
