Countdown to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is only two days away. Here are some of the latest WEAAD events and tools. Join us and take a stand this week for dignity, fairness, and elder justice:

WEAAD Webinar Today at 4:30pm ET: On this webinar, the Social Security Administration will share the latest on representative payees; the Department of Justice's Elder Justice Initiative will talk about the Elder Abuse Prevention and Prosecution Act and new resources being developed to better respond to elder abuse; ACL will discuss guardianship grant programs and the importance of data collection for policy and programmatic enhancement; and the National Center on Elder Abuse will present some of the latest trends and resources that will help you to better respond to elder abuse. Register now.

U.S. Department of Justice WEAAD Event: The U.S. Department of Justice will host an event to commemorate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Friday, June 15, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm ET at 950 Pennsylvania Ave. NW in Washington DC. The event will feature special remarks from Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the stories from someone who has experienced abuse, and a panel of experts from the field discussing elder abuse with an on elder issues unique to rural communities. From the Social Security Administration: The Social Security Administration is bringing attention to the issue of elder abuse on their Social Security Matters Blog and through a Facebook Live broadcast tonight at 7pm ET featuring Jennifer Walker, Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations.
