ACL Announces Paralysis Resource Center Funding Opportunities

February 23, 2018

ACL’s Administration on Disability is announcing two funding opportunities. These opportunities are for one National Paralysis Resource Center and up to five (5) Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) State Pilot Programs. The purpose of the programs is to improve the quality of life for people living with paralysis and to leverage resources through collaboration.

The National Paralysis Resource Center (NPRC) will work to improve the quality of life for people living with paralysis, their families, and their support networks through grants, information, referral services, and advocacy. The National PRC will provide comprehensive information for people living with any type of paralysis and their families. Resources will include information and referral by phone and email in multiple languages; a national peer and family support mentoring program; a military and veterans program; multicultural outreach services; quality of life sub-award grants; and a national website.

This year, ACL will be awarding a new grant to pilot a state-wide quality of life program to recognize and support organizations that assist individuals with paralysis, their families, and support networks. The focus will be on ways to increase independence, provide social and educational opportunities, decrease depression and isolation, and provide opportunities that will have lasting effects.

Paralysis Resource Center State Pilot Program grants are designed to enhance the capacity of community-based disability programs by improving and/or increasing the services and supports provided by these organizations working to improve the quality of life for individuals with paralysis. Grantees funded under this announcement will make sub-awards to community-based disability organizations across their states that provide long-term services and supports to people with paralysis. ACL will work closely with all grantees to ensure collaboration and non-duplication of efforts.

The closing date for both applications is April 17, 2018 at 11:59 pm ET.
