November 24, 2017

Kaiser Health News (11/24, Graham) reported an interview with Harvard Medical School professor, director of the Program in Aging at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute, and author Muriel Gillick who discussed her new book, “Old & Sick in America: The Journey Through the Health Care System.” Gillick explained some of the “perils” threatening older adults navigating healthcare, and recommended patients “speak up” about their concerns and undergo a “geriatric assessment” to better attune their medical providers’ awareness of their needs. Gillick gave recommendations on seeking care at skilled nursing facilities, and said residents and families meet with providers to develop “trust.”
