Self-Neglect Elder Abuse Is Complex Issue

The New York Times (3/2, Span, Subscription Publication, 13.35M) reported on the “underrecognized” issue of “self-neglect” among older adults, which “accounts for more calls to adult protective services agencies nationwide than any other form of elder abuse.” The Times explained that the issue is compounded by the fact that “efforts to identify and help older people who neglect themselves often collide with Americans’ emphasis on self-determination.”
