Join us online on June 20, 2014, at 1 p.m. EST as we celebrate a landmark civil rights anniversary: the 15th Anniversary of the Olmstead Decision. This Friday, the Administration for Community Living and the U.S. Department of Justice will host a celebration of the Olmstead decision. Guest speakers will address a range of issues critical to disability rights, including the impact of integration and implications for the future.

This Veterans Day, ACL joins the nation in thanking our brave men and women who have served honorably in the U.S. military (read the proclamation). There are approximately 21 million veterans living today. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, about 9.6 million of these veterans are over the age of 65. In addition, there are nearly four million veterans living with service-connected disabilities.

Dr. King persistently challenged himself and others to answer the question “What are you doing for others?” A good answer to that question is “Serving as a volunteer on the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day of Service.” On Monday, January 20, you can assist the homeless, veterans, or military families; you can visit a community center to talk to seniors and kids about making healthy food choices; you can help plant trees in your community; or you can do one of dozens of other activities to serve your neighbors and community.
