A video recording, transcript, and other materials from the June 8, 2023, Elder Justice Coordinating Council (EJCC) meeting are now available. The meeting highlighted the importance of including older adults in preparedness planning for disasters, emergencies, and pandemics and discussed the future of the elder justice movement and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).

The Olmstead decision is the guiding light for our mission at ACL. Our networks work every day to provide direct services and legal advocacy while engaging in systems change focused on meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life.

The proposed rule is the culmination of many years of engagement with the national aging network. It also reflects input received through a formal request for information and a series of listening sessions, including formal tribal consultations and other engagements with tribal grantees. The webinar will provide an overview of the proposed rule, as well as instructions for providing input.

People with HIV are living and thriving well into later life. This is good news, but the specific needs of people aging with HIV may not always be well met by existing programs. Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights (OCR) announced steps voluntarily taken by CVS and Walgreens to improve timely access to medications to support persons with disabilities, women experiencing miscarriages and early pregnancy loss, and those seeking access to contraceptives. OCR received complaints against pharmacies for denying and delaying lawful access to medications, such as methotrexate and misoprostol.

The Amputee Coalition is hosting a listening session for people affected by peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and other related diseases — such as diabetes, coronary artery disease, and cerebrovascular disease — that resulted in amputation. Attendees can share their experiences of pre- and post-amputation medical care from a holistic lens to improve patient care.
