Opioid Crisis Also Harming Seniors

February 4, 2018

The Scranton (PA) Times Tribune (2/4, Osborne, Johnston, 171K) reports that while “much of the media attention” has focused on younger opioid abusers, “older adults are more likely to be prescribed opioids than any other population and overdoses are on the rise.” The piece says that “nearly 14,000 people age 45-plus died from opioid overdoses in 2015 – 42 percent of all such deaths nationally, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” The piece says that by increasing awareness, “changing prescriber conduct and boosting access to treatment, Pennsylvania can save lives.”

I was addicted to pain killers for years, doctors who gave me a band aid every appt, instead of other options to help or take care of my pain, was put on Suboxone, where they control every aspect of your life, get abandoned by your doctor. While you seek other help, doctors not equipped to deal with withdrawals, and you want to just give up and die, and you wonder why people are dying, that's why. Doctors are scared of losing there license, gov. Needs to but out, and let the doctors do what they best...treating patients to the best of there ability. Ty Trish Golden
