NBC News (5/12, Siemaszko, 8.55M) reported on the 37,000 Medicaid recipients in Louisiana who are at risk of losing their healthcare services on July 1 because of the state’s budget crisis, spotlighting a quadriplegic patient and a mother of a son with Down’s Syndrome. NBC explains that the Republican-controlled state House “made deep cuts to the proposed budget to make up for a $650 million shortfall rather than continue a temporary tax which ends on June 30 — and had been buttressing the bottom line.”
