Every May, the Administration on Aging, part of the Administration for Community Living, leads our nation’s observance of Older American’s Month. We are pleased to announce the 2018 theme, Engage at Every Age, which emphasizes that you are never too old (or too young) to take part in activities that can enrich your physical, mental and emotional well-being and celebrates the many ways older adults make a difference in our communities.
Participating in activities that promote mental and physical wellness, offering your wisdom and experience to the next generation, seeking the mentorship of someone with more life experience than you—those are just a few examples of what being engaged can mean.
In the coming months, we will provide materials to help you promote and celebrate this observance. Visit the official Older Americans Month website in early 2018 for logos, posters, and more! To start promoting online, use the official hashtag #OAM18.
No matter where you are in your life, there is no better time than now to start. We hope you will join in and Engage at Every Age!
Love the theme! It's what we are all about at It's Never 2 Late www.iN2L.com - ~thank you for shinning the light on this very important part of community living!
I am the Senior Services Coordinator for University City, Missouri, and we are just starting to plan a community program focused on older adults that will take place on May 6. Would love to know your theme for this year to see if we can incorporate it into our program.
First, I'm sorry for the delayed response. We missed your comment initially.
The theme for this year is "Engage at Any Age." Please watch the website for Older Americans Month for materials you can use to celebrate. Thanks!
People in nursing homes don’t have much of a chance to have a life, your put in here to grow old and die. There’s so many rules and regulations to keep you safe. In other words to stay safe DO NOTHING.
Perhaps you could talk with the staff about doing something fun to celebrate Older Americans Month in May? That would be in keeping with the theme of "Engage at Every Age."
When will the Older Americans Month 2018 material (logo, posters, banners, flyers) be available?
What a fantastic theme!!! Will you share any ideas for intergenerational activities/programs?
